Federation Day

I would not say that the day turned out poorly but I do not feel that I really came away with too much from the morning workshops. In the morning, what the spokespersons for the OTF and ETFO said did not provide me with information that I have yet to hear over my years in concurrent education. The information that I did find to be new and informative was QECO. This is something that I definitely feel there should be more discussion about. Without today, I would not have known that this existed.

As for the afternoon workshop, I did find this beneficial. I was part of the Classroom Routine and Management seminar. The presenter was great and I feel that I benefited from what she had to say. It was especially beneficial for me due to previous experience in older grades and with my lack of experience in the junior division (which I will have next block).

Overall, the presentation styles were good. Due to the lack of information they may have been given regarding what we have been taught over the years though, it made parts of the presentation seem repetitive.

Hey Miss B

I do agree in terms of the morning workshops- a lot of information unfortunately was not new, and I did feel as though the presenters were repetitive.

The afternoon however was awesome. I attended the "What if I get an offer of employment" workshop for the DSBN, and it was the greatest thing I could have done. I received information on deadlines, the whole application process, references, my chances of getting a job, and pretty much ALL the information I need for when I am applying to the Niagara Board. The speaker was great and she was willing to answer the millions of questions I was asking...overall that part of the day was the best, and I am extremely pleased I chose that workshop to attend.

I am looking forward to our next counselling group and sharing all of this information with one another and hopefully not lose out on important and useful info. that we didnt all get the chance to hear about.
Miss B it sounds like you walked away with some notes that we could all benefit from hearning :)

Although the morning session appeared to be filled with non-pertinent infromation about the federation and OECTA simply toting their company lines, it was probably something that we needed to hear. I know that the OECTA presentation was fairly dry, but it was good to hear what the organizaions mission and duties were for the teachers that belong.

Hopefully we are getting the dry and less interesting workshops out of the way early to leave room for more important and interesting workshops later in the school year....
